Donate Appreciated Securities

Donations of publicly listed securities are exempt from the capital gains tax, making this one of the most attractive ways to support our ministry. If you donate securities to New Life Women’s Home directly, rather than liquidating securities and donating cash, you will not pay any capital gains tax normally associated with the sale of securities. And you will receive a charitable tax receipt for the full value of the securities donated.

If you are interested in making a donation of appreciated securities, you can simply and securely do that by registering an account with the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities here: Step 1: Select Account Type – Canadian Centre for Christian Charities (cccc.org) and direct your giving to New Life Recovery Ministries. Alternatively you can contact Tina Vanderlaan, Administrator at 613-394-3341 or by email at tina@newlifecanada.org.

Donate Private Company Shares

Did you know that you can donate your private company shares to your favourite cause? With 70% of private and family business owners in Canada planning to sell or pass on their businesses over the next few years, donating a portion of private company shares is an opportunity to support New Life Women’s Home and can potentially provide significant tax savings.

Each scenario is different, and there are many rules and considerations that you would have to work through with your financial advisors to ensure that this is an option for you.

If you are interested in learning more, please contact Tina Vanderlaan at 613-394-3341 or by email at tina@newlifecanada.org.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many employers now offer charitable corporate matching gift programs as a benefit to employees. When you donate to a charity of your choice, your employer will match your contribution to that same organization. This is a great way to double your donation and double the impact you will have on the lives of the women we serve.

Ask your Human Resources department if your company offers this plan. Please feel free to contact Tina Vanderlaan at 613-394-3341 or by email at tina@newlifecanada.org.

How to Give a Gift in Your Will

Your will is an expression of your values and is the cornerstone of any estate plan. It can convey the care and nurture you have for your loved ones and is a final expression of your support for the causes you care about, including New Life Women’s Home.

This final act of giving is an expression of your gratitude to God for the gifts He has allowed you to gather during our lifetime.

Charitable donations made through your will, also known as charitable bequests, are the most common form of end-of-life giving. Making a bequest is a simple process, one that will help ensure that women struggling with life-controlling problems will receive the support they need.

We encourage you to consult your legal and financial advisor about your decision to include charitable giving in your estate plans to ensure your wishes are fulfilled and to maximize the tax benefits.

To learn more, please contact Tina Vanderlaan at 613-394-3341 or by email at tina@newlifecanada.org.

3 Simple Ways to Leave a Gift in Your Will

  1. Leave a Residual Gift

residual gift fulfills all other commitments of your estate (such as gifts to loved ones) first. Then, the remainder is given to New Life Women’s Home.

Sample bequest wording: “I give to New Life Women’s Home one hundred per cent (100%) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate for its general purposes.”

  2. A Percentage of Your Estate

Giving a percentage of your estate allows you to divide your estate into equal portions. You can then leave a specific portion as a charitable gift.

Sample bequest wording: I give to New Life Women’s Home ____ per cent of the value of my estate to be used for its general purposes.”

  3. A Fixed Amount Gift

Giving a percentage of your estate allows you to divide your estate into equal portions. You can then leave a specific portion as a charitable gift.

Sample bequest wording: “I give to New Life Women’s Home the sum of $______ to be used for its general purposes.”
